RealtyTrac – Avios Update
Sometimes great deals come along, and if they seem to be too good to be true–they probably are.
I received word from The Points Guy tonight that there is a dispute between British Airways and their marketing agency.
According to TPG, the CEO of RealtyTrac stated that the 3,000 Avios promotion though the British Airways Estore “is unauthorized and they will be canceling every single account signed up through this promotion so no one will be charged a dime.”
While I certainly did hope it would work, I was left wondering (and still am) if the promotion would be honored or was simply too good to be true. The offer is after all almost enough Avios points (I have trouble just calling them Avios) for a short-haul one-way flight.
There have been similar shopping portals offering lush bonuses within the last year or so that have crashed in a similar way, in which getting your money back is not the norm. Thus it is at least re-assuring to see that they will make sure no one is charged anything through this.
Hopefully they still suck it up and offer the points as a gesture of goodwill, but we shall see…..

My account is 3000 pending, then -3000 pending…. should we cancel, he said they will do it for us.
Theoretically, you do not need to do anything to cancel. It sounds like they will handle it.
I prefer to err on the side of caution so I emailed support@realtytrac.zendesk.com. They told me my account was cancelled already cancelled, but also that I wouldn’t be charged, since I “cancelled within the 7-day window.”
So it may not hurt to email them, though.
