Point Me to the Miles

Navigating the Path to Great Travel

It Pays to Be a Delta Medallion…

I am traveling to a friend’s wedding, and decided to make a mileage run out of it by traveling via LAX.

I was scheduled to fly out at 1:30 today, but I received an email saying that my flight had been delayed.  Then a little over an hour, I received word that it had been delayed, again.

Although, an eternal opportunist I usually am, started to worry about even making my flights to Oklahoma tomorrow.  “Great,” I thought, “Me and my mileage runs have cost me this time.”

Then, I finally called up the Delta Gold Medallion Line, and they were found availability on the next flight, albeit three hours later.  The kind agent asked about aisle or window, and I inquired if an exit row was available.  She informed me she had an Exit Row aisle or Economy Comfort aisle available, and I choose the Econ Comfort selection.

Immediately after hanging up, I brought up my itinerary on Delta.com, and it still had me choosing options.  But lo and behold it showed the SLC-LAX option having. a confirmed upgrade!  Naturally, I said “Yes, please!”.

In a state of sheer delight, I forgot to grab a screenshot of my option with a confirmed upgrade, but I did get one afterward:

Maybe it was that she thought my seat, 3A was Econ Comfort, maybe she was being nice to me, or maybe I just happened to hop on at the right time.  Either wayN my upgrade was confirmed!
