Atlanta–and Georgia for that matter, has long been one of my favorite places to visit. Maybe I just like the southern charm, but I suppose a little bit of the mystique is that it was the first “big” city I remember visiting.
So when the chance to catch up with some old friends and watch a football game came up, I checked into fares from Washington. To my surprise, I was able to find round-trip fares for a mere $360!
Finding hotels was the hotel part… As it turned out, Atlanta was incredibly busy over Labor weekend between 2 major college football games in the Georgia Dome, a NASCAR race, Lynard Skinard concert, and DragonCon–the world’s largest scii-fi/fantasy convention.
I was able to secure a room at the Westin Atlanta airport for 3,000 points, and even upgraded to their lush Governor’s suite–sans the additional Heavenly shower head. I had 2 Marriott MegaBonus award certificates (one of which would have soon expired) so I used those for the final two nights of my stay.
That left only Wednesday/Thursday to book for, which ended up being easier than I had thought. Originally, I was considering using 30,000 Marriott Rewards points to stay at the Ritz-Carlton, Atlanta (as opposed to the other one up in Buckhead) but stumbled upon weeknight rates of $133/night!
Sit back, eat a peach, drink some Coca-Cola, and enjoy tales of my Altanta Adventures!
