Get in on 1,000 FREE British Midland Miles While You Still Can

British Midland, International (BMI) a favorite loyalty program for Star Alliance award redemptions, was finally acquired last month by IAG, the owner of Oneworld Alliance alirlines British Airways and Iberia.  The announcement of IAG’s proposal last December proved quite controversial, as many including Virgin Atlantic owner Richard Branson are afraid the move will increase British Airways’ monopoly of Heathrow Airport–among the busiest in the world.

Politics and economics aside, this means the transition of British Midland Dividend Miles into highly criticized British Airways Avios seems inevitable. Currently BMI is giving away 1,000  for new account sign-ups:

BMI Sign-Up Bonus

British Airways household accounts can be combined for up to seven members residing at the same address.  So theoretically earn up to 7,000 miles through this way.  Then, as As Ben of One Mile at a Time suggests, ONCE they transfer over  to Avios you could then combine miles for a short-haul, one-way award ticket.

Anyway, I would get in on  FREE miles with BMI, while you still can!

Tip of the hat to One Mile at a Time.

RealtyTrac – Avios Update

Sometimes great deals come along, and if they seem to be too good to be true–they probably are.

I received word from The Points Guy tonight that there is a dispute between British Airways and their marketing agency.

According to TPG, the CEO of RealtyTrac stated that the 3,000 Avios promotion though the British Airways Estore “is unauthorized and  they will be canceling every single account signed up through this promotion so no one will be charged a dime.”

While I certainly did hope it would work, I was left wondering (and still am) if the promotion would be honored or was simply too good to be true.   The offer is after all almost enough Avios points (I have trouble just calling them Avios) for a short-haul one-way flight.

There have been similar shopping portals  offering lush bonuses within the last year or so  that have crashed in a similar way, in which getting your money back is not the norm.  Thus it is at least re-assuring to see that they will make sure no one is charged anything through this.

Hopefully they still suck it up and offer the points as a gesture of goodwill, but we shall see…..
